Major life milestones often have a major tax impact. Changes in your marital status, having a baby or adopting a child can have significant impact on your taxes. This is the place to ask questions about dependents, real estate, and other various scenarios that play a significant role in what taxes you pay.

capital gains sharing

Can somebody help with how to enter capital gains shared with ex.  As part of final settlement, we agreed to share the capital gains for positions before final judgement.  I see the option in the software to "Nominate" and later select "due to divorce".  The question is should I split the basis and proceeds into half ?  The questions is because this will cause a mismatch between my totals and the one reported to the irs.  Is there any other better way ?
