Quick Question on amending MFS to MFJ

Hi - I have a simple (I think) question on the best way to file a 1040X amendment to change filing status from MFS to MFJ. My wife and I married in 2016 and she got excited and filed as MFS before we had a chance to discuss. It is definitely better for us to file as MFJ (I've looked at both). Should I submit a 1040X via mail to amend hers and forgo submitting a return of my own? Is there risk of my return being "late" if it is technically outstanding until the 1040X is processed?

Re: Quick Question on amending MFS to MFJ

If you file your 1040X by mailing it in and it is postmarked by the post office on or before 4-18-17 you have

met your requirement.   It will not be "technically late".   Have no fear.

Good luck!!
