If one takes the bus to and from doctors appointments how do you satisfy the recording of this? When you pay bus fare you do not receive a receipt. The tax code states you can indeed deduct bus fare but its unclear how.
If you can offer any insight I would really appreciate understanding this better.

Welcome to the H&R Block community.
The cost of getting to and from medical treatments, which can be bus fare or miles driven or even the cost of taking a taxi, is deductible on Schedule A in the medical expenses section. Note that to actually get a medical expenses deduction your total medical expenses must exceed 10% of your adjusted gross income.
You can enter medical travel expenses in the adjustments & deductions section of the online software.
If you have any other questions I'll be glad to help.
