Although this issue with our software makes it so you cannot see the EIC questions and results unless you go through the above process, the software is still applying the credit as if you qualify for it. As for the child credit, I couldn't tell you why you aren't seeing it last year. If you see the credit on your 2016 form 1040 however, then this is not anything you need to worry about. You can use this link to see if you qualified for the credit last year. If you qualified but did not have a tax liability last year then you would not have seen any benefit from this credit as it is nonrefundable, meaning it only reduces your outstanding tax liability.

I tried to follow these instructions but I never come across the screen that you are referring to. The screen where I should be able to check the box that I've been in the US for 6 months or less.

This issue should have been resolved for you for a while now.. Have you checked out the Earned Income Credit topic again in the CREDITS section of your Federal return? You should now see a series of questions to determine if you are able to claim the credit. If not, please let me know and then chat in with product support in one of the following ways:

If I mark that I have a spouse it will give me the questions but when I choose Single it keeps saying that I am unable to receive EIC because I'm not a US resident when I am. Thank you, I will call the help desk.
