I have a different problem where it won';t launch the program. Appears to be loaded properly, but briefly displays two messages: "Please wait a moment while we get form availability information" and " Please wait a moment while we check for important notifications". If I click to launch it again it displays the same messages. There is about 10 seconds where it appears to be launching, but it doesn't .

We were unable to activate the software or download the state. Called the helpline and still nothing.
After playing with things on my own, I found that my security software had to be turned off and set NOT to launch at restart; then restart the computer. After I did that, I could use the new activation code that the help center gave me AND download the state software.
Just as FYI, we got the same error messages when trying to e-file and had to go through that whole process again, but it did go through.
Hope this helps someone!!
Good luck everyone!!!!

Thank you "LostforReal" I fixed it so my internet security would not launch during startup and then tried to activate the software and it worked. So, apparently, something in the new H&R software is sending red flags to my internet security software. Never happened before. I have used Tax Cut and Kaspersky for years. . I appreciate you taking the time to post this solution.

I also paid for H&R Block Deluxe 2017. I did not receive payment confirmation or validation code email. Under help I put in my email address for resending the email validation code, but the only code I get is for the 2016 software I had purchased for last year.

Good Afternoon amardeffico
We're sorry that you're getting the SSL error. This could be cause by a number of things. This type of error requires the troubleshooting using multiple steps and could be a lengthy process. For this reason it would be better to troubleshoot over the phone. Please contact our Digital Software Support Team at 888-482-9288.

When I finished my Federal return and attempted to download the state software, I encountered the SSL Error again. Again, it continued to display this error even after turning off Norton Security and disabling the firewall. Following a suggestion on this and other threads, I tried installing and running on another machine that hadn’t yet had H&R Block software installed on it. That worked.
Note that I did not opt to call the Digital Software Support Team because I calculated my chances of success without spending hours of time on the phone were a lot better that way.
I would like to know if H&R Block has finally discovered what the root cause is for this error. Having to run on a new computer every year is NOT an adequate solution. If the problem hasn’t been definitively solved, I’ll have to use another vendor for my taxes next year.
Other threads on this system indicate that the problem has existed FOR YEARS without a satisfying resolution. As a software engineer with 20+ years of experience (and a bit of “spare” time on my hands), I would like to help you determine what the problem is so the rest of your users don’t continue to run into this. But I will need to be paid appropriately for that effort rather than donating my time like the rest of your users have been required to do.
If you would like my help, please contact me. If the problem is already solved…that’s even better.

Did H&R Block forget to change their clocks on their server for Daylight Savings Time or something???
I have the same problem as of 03/17/2018. I called H&R Block's help line and they had no idea what I was talking about nor how to fix the issue. Time is running out; Tax Day will be here soon. Can someone post a solution please? I have searched all over the internet and there are many people having this same issue with no solution posted.
Note: I can use the software and have completed my Federal Return; however, I can't activate the software nor download and install the State Program. I imagine this will be an issue when I try to E-File. I am using Windows 10, H&R Block TaxCut Deluxe 2017. My PC clock and date are correct.
By the way, I have used H&R TaxCut every year since 2001 (the last 17 years) and this is the first time I am experiencing this issue.

There are more details in other posts (and in other threads).
>I have used H&R TaxCut every year since 2001
Apparently, this may be part of the problem. I too have been using H&R Block (and TaxCut before H&R Block bought it) for a lot of years. It seems that the previous year's version installed something (perhaps a security certificate) that the new version is tripping over. I managed to sidestep the problem this year, by installing on a machine that didn't previously have any version of H&R Block/TaxCut installed.
Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't seem to help because the uninstaller does an incomplete job of backing out all the changes the installer has made to the system. (Or maybe, you also need to uninstall previous versions too. I don't know.)
Others have indicated that turning off virus protection solved their problem. That didn't work for me because Symantec is very clever about making sure you can't modify the system to keep it from running on boot up. (As well it should, actually.)
The system clock error message (which typically also calls out an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) error), is unfortunately either overly broad or completely misleading. It may be that, years ago, the SSL error, WAS caused by a clock error, but that legacy code has been brought forward year after year and no one has bothered to dig further into the underlying failure codes to present a more useful error message.
>I called H&R Block's help line and they had no idea what I was talking about
I had the same experience. If you search through other messages on this system, you'll see that others have encountered it too...for years. HRB's help line training script needs to be updated to cover this.
You may have better luck if you call...

This might be a "second line of defense" number that goes to operators that are trained to deal with something other than just "low hanging fruit".
