I have a very specific question so I called the 800 number and was kept on the phone for over an hour while they tried to find the phone number for the "free advice". Now I have searched the site for 15 minutes and can't find the "live chat" either!
H&R BLOCK, I have used your software since 2008. Where are you when your customers want to access the "free" services you have falsely advertised?

IN MY OPINION, HR Block has INTENTIONALLY kept the chat button hidden and difficult to find, simply because they don't want us to use it. I am really ticked. How the heck do we access chat???? It says 24 hour chat starting 1/5/16 but they won't let you access it. this is BS in my opinion.

I know this is a bit old, but this was a struggle for me w/the 2016 edition and wanted to submit what I found, as this is indeed, not intuitive (and I agree it feels purposefully difficult). This is mainly due to the fact that even though you purchased the desktop version you need an online account to access this service.
I went through a lot to get there, and in the end I discovered MOST of it was useless clicking.
So here is the condensed (cut-out-the-middle-clicks) method as of 3/2017:
Go to hrblock.com
Click "Sign In" at the top (towards the right)
Click "Create an Account" (if you don't have one yet) - and follow the prompts to create an account
or "Sign In To My Account" (if you have one already)
Once signed in scroll down a little, and you should see 3 options:
"Estimate My Taxes," "Get Assistance," and "Emerald Card"
Click "Get Assistance"
Scroll Down, click the green "Contact Us" button
There are now 2 green "Chat Now" buttons, one for "Program Help" and one for "Tax Rules"
Click whichever one you need help with, fill out the form, and there you go! (easy, right?)

Also, in case anyone is wondering, here are the additional steps to get there from within the desktop application:
In the application, open the "Help" menu and select "Customer Support"
Help central will open, select "Customer Support" (again) from that menu
Click the "Cllick Here" link "to launch your Web browser."
You'll be on the website's help page, select the green "Get Started" button under "Using The Program"
Scroll down, at the bottom (above the dark grey footer bar) you should see: "Still haven't found what you're looking for?"
Click the green "Contact Us" button there
Click the green "Go to MyBlock" button under "Contact Options for 2017 (Tax Filing Year 2016)
Create an account or sign-in

I reached the Chat button but it says 'Unavailable".
They don't even mention what time this service is available.
