Does anyone know if we will be able to file Fiduciary tax returns (1041) electronically this year for both federal and states? The state of Virginia requires all Fiduciary tax returns be filed electronically this year. Last year the Box did not support this. But I noticed that when I did an update to the 2016 software, that I could open the 8879's and 8453's.

Our program does not support e-fling 1041 returns for federal. For state, if the program you are using does not allow e-filing you cannot but if the state e-file is available than the state will generally allow you to e-file.

That is unfortunate. This will be the last year I purchase your product since the main reason for purchasing was to do my trust returns. I will have to research other DIY software to see which one allows e-filing of both federal and state. I was hoping that your response was going to be, "e-filing is not possible now but our programmers are working on an upgrade that will be effective soon.

I appreciate your feedback and will definitely pass this information on to the developers. Hopefully this is an option available soon. Thanks.

The Virginia Department of Taxation lists H&R Block as one of the tax software programs that are registered with it for electronic filings of Form 770, the state return for a 1041 trust. Like the original commenter, this was the only reason I bought the program. This is the second software program I purchased for filing a trust return that I have wasted money on because it cannot file electronically and the state REQUIRES electronic filing. I am going to ask Amazon for a refund and will never buy an H&R program again. Burned once.

I am really glad I saw this thread. I prepare a trust return in Virginia, and like the other commenters, I was going to buy H&R Block's Premium & Business software precisely because the state of Virginia now requires e-filing and lists HRB as a provider that can e-file trust returns.
