We sold our house in Wisconsin in February of 2017. We purchased a house in Illinois in March of 2017. The Illinois Publication 108 states that you are not to claim a credit for the home purchased in 2017 but can claim prorated taxes for the home that you sold. However, since our home that we sold was in Wisconsin, does that mean we are not allowed to claim the Illinois credit?

Welcome to H&R Block Community.
The Illinois Publication 108 refers to the Illinois Property Tax Credit, the contents of that publication only applies to property taxes for homes that were owned and sold in Illinois. Due to the fact that you sold your home in Wisconsin, the Illinois property tax credit would not be claimed on the 2017 Illinois return.
